shadow service review
by Nadav
Intro- I read comics, usually scroll format on the phone on GlobalComix but if I have to then iPad. I try to stick with feminist comics about girls with powers. Yes I'm a feminist what about it.
- Fun5
- Israel4
- Plot
- Fun 5 - It was fun
- Israel 4 - This was a rollercoaster. For the first half Israel wasn't mentioned at all, the spells were gibberish and not inspired by the Zohar like in Berserk. Once they said the word "kosher", there was a dis on Boris Johnson, and in one issue I almost thought the villain was going to be Jewish. But in the second-to-last issue released the word "Israel" was said in full, and we have a wizard rabbi.
- Plot 3 - The characters are excellent, but I felt they were jumping from idea to idea too fast.
- Finished 2 - A lot of issues came out so there's stuff to read, but as of right now 4 years and nothing new, and the plot was right at its peak.
- Art 5 - Because this is a comic about a witch I expected something amateur feminist, but it turns out it's by some Brit from Bristol who's a big name with decades of experience
What I liked
The main character is a witch so they draw her with a big nose, in a European way (not Jewish). The artist has a very specific kink that comes through in the way monsters hold the main character ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
What I didn't like
This was the first creator-owned comic by the writer after years of working on known IPs like Marvel's Star Wars, so obviously he had a lot of things he wanted to put on the page. Maybe a little too many.
Noticed
If a certain moment too much reminds you of kingsman, worth remembering that both comics are about a British intelligence service (yes kingsman is also movies and a comic).
